World Book Day Fun

As it’s world book day tomorrow, I thought I’d put a little post together and show you all our World Book Day potatoes!

I love the idea of world book day. As an English teacher, I think anything that encourages a love of reading in children is wonderful and will only benefit them long term.

Our children can’t get enough of books (at the moment!) and they each have two stories a night read to them as well as various stories through the day. I’ll often find them with books in their beds when I check on them before I go to sleep too. Isabella especially has really developed her love of reading through year 1 and is growing in confidence daily. It’s a shame that the Biff and Chip books she gets from school don’t hugely grip her but that hasn’t dampened her enthusiasm.

So, although I love the idea of World Book Day, as a parent, it can also be hugely stressful. I know some schools are very strict with their dressing up rules (no princesses and film characters) and others have set themes for the year. This can be a challenge, especially if you don’t have the disposable income to splash out on a costume specifically for the day. But we all manage to cobble something together in the end don’t we?!

Well this year, as well as dressing up (she apparently HAS to dress up as a princess again- Cinderella this year!), Isabella was also invited to dress up a potato as part of a school wide competition. So we’ve spent a couple of days crafting and Benjamin got in on the action too.

Here are the finished products…

Can you guess who Benjamin made?

What are you doing for World Book Day this year? Or are you ignoring it completely?

This was last year- I’ll add pictures tomorrow of this year’s.
