Gro-Egg Thermometer

The Gro-Egg Thermometer is an incredibly accurate room thermometer with the added bonus of doubling up as a night light; the egg changes colour depending on the current room temperature meaning that regardless of the time of day, I can see at a glance if my baby’s room is at the right temperature.

As a first time mum I found this concept really useful as I had no idea about how warm or cool a baby’s room needed to be. However, as useful as it is to see the colours changing, I find the ‘ideal’ temperature (between 17-20’C) to be a little on the cold side and so I don’t worry too much if the egg turns orange; in fact during the summer, no matter what we did, we couldn’t get the egg to turn anything but orange. I mainly focus on when it turns red (too hot) or blue (too cold) and adjust the temperature accordingly.

The light which is emitted from the egg provides a soft glow to the room regardless of the colour it is, which Isabella loves. However, I don’t think it’s bright enough to be used as the sole light during night feeds or changing.

One negative about this product is that is has to be plugged into the mains – there is no battery option. This isn’t an issue for me, but if you don’t have a spare plug in the nursery, it won’t be of any use to you. The other issue with the power cord is that it sticks out quite a lot from the back of the egg (it’s almost as deep as the egg itself). This can make it tricky to fit on a shelf with limited space but isn’t the end of the world. On the plus side, the power supply has a long lead so is quite flexible in terms of where it can be placed in the room.

I think the general design of the Gro-Egg is lovely. It is lightweight and just the right size to be seen but not in the way and it doesn’t look out of place in the nursery. The positives of this product far outweigh any negatives and I will definitely continue to use this product. For £16.50 (can be found cheaper on Amazon) I think this is a great buy.
