Fisher Price Ocean Wonders Soothe and Glow Seahorse.

I bought the Soothe and Glow Seahorse after reading a post on a baby forum about soothing babies to sleep and what a positive experience it can be. The Soothe and Glow Seahorse was reduced in Argos at the time down from £16 to £11 which I thought was a real bargain. They are available in pink and blue and so cater for both genders although I’m guessing that girls will use them more when they are older.

The seahorse itself is a super cute design made from different fabrics and colours thus providing a sensory experience for the baby. One touch of the seahorse’s belly omits soothing music (you have a choice of 8 different lullabies which last over 5 minutes along with a soothing orange light glow).

To cease music before the end of the 5 minutes, simply press the seahorse’s belly again and the music and lights slowly fade away. This is a great design as it won’t startle the baby awake if they have drifted off.

Inside the mechanics there are two volume settings: high and low. It holds three AA batteries which in three months we have only had to change once.

The seahorse is also portable being about 9 inches long and perfect to place in babies arms. I begin playing the seahorse at night time wash time, while we are dressing baby into night clothes. We use this as our signal for wind down time; baby will soon associate this with bedtime. Because of its small size it fits neatly in the crib/cot without taking valuable stretching room.

My only complaint would be that the music only plays for 5 minutes, so you often have to repress the belly for more music. I had purchased a much more expensive baby music soother prior to this one (the Ewan Dream Sheep £30) but my baby was not interested in it at all. This seahorse is far more soothing and interesting for her and at a 1/3 of the price, is a definite must have. In fact I’m thinking about getting another one, in case this one breaks!
