Infant Colic

If your baby has ever suffered with colic, you will know just how stressful a time it can be; in fact you might feel like you’re never going to get out of the cycle of having a screaming baby. Infacol have created a study called Stress in the First Six Months and it highlighted that 95% of parents find having a baby stressful and having three makes the balancing act that much harder. “With three children, you don’t have time for yourself, and you feel under even more pressure to live up to the expectation of being the perfect parent because you’re supposed to know the ropes”, says Tanya Budden, a midwife from Cambridge.

Even the Royals get Stressed!

Even the Duchess of Cambridge, having recently had her third baby, admitted that she found the expectations of being a perfect parent very hard to live up to, and 82% of parents in the study agree with her. The Duchess explains that she experienced a “lack of confidence and feelings of ignorance” and found parenthood a “huge challenge”.

Stress in the First Six Months highlights some of the concerns parents have in the first six months: financial worries, loneliness, exhaustion and the pressure to return to work are all in there. It’s no surprise that money worries are at the top of the list. In the UK it is said that new parents will spend around £9,364 on their new born in the first 12 months alone!  Parents are having to adjust their lifestyle to meet the needs of their new baby and out of 886 parents surveyed, a staggering 75% claimed household finances as being their main concern when deciding to return to work. According to the Office of National Statistics, the number of working mums has surged by 2 million in the past twenty years!

Sleep Depriation

Aside from money, lack of sleep is also right up there on the list of agonising concerns for new parents. If your baby then develops colic, your already limited sleep is only going to get worse. Infant colic affects 1 in 5 babies and the intense crying of a baby with colic can last for several hours at a time. With baby in pain and parents feeling useless, Infacol, Britain’s Number One Colic Remedy, and Cry-Sis (the only parenting charity dedicated to helping parents through this agonising time) have launched the first Infant Colic Awareness Campaign. You can read more about it here as well as being able to fine lots of helpful information and support.

To help raise awareness of the campaign and help parents identify and get support for Infant Colic, we’ve teamed up with Infacol and The White Company to offer you the chance to win a Kimbo Seersucker Sleeping Bag 0.5 togs for 0-6 months worth £28.00.
