Keeping the Kids Busy During Winter Weekends

*Collaborative Post*

Are you looking for things to do with the little ones? Christmas is behind us and the half term break is a little while away, so keeping the kids entertained during these cold, wintry weekends can be tricky.

Whether you’re resisting upping their screen time or you’ve simply run out of ideas, here are some fun activities to give you some inspiration and keep them occupied.

Speed Things Up

Spending time in the local park is a sure-fire way to keep them busy. Whether they love to run around or spend hours on the swings, there’s usually plenty on offer at most green spaces across the UK.

You could bring some paper and colouring pencils along so the kids can draw what they see or do some bark rubbings. Alternatively, if your little ones are speed demons, it’s worth taking a scooter along too, like these from Proline. These are fun for them and also come in handy if the rain arrives and you need to move to shelter quickly!

Get Crafty

If the weather takes a turn for the drizzly, why not stay indoors and get crafting? Choose a space where you can all spread out, pop some newspaper or old undersheets on the floor, and create a dedicated crafting station for the weekend.

There are plenty of crafty ideas that you can try. Start with some of the easier things that you know they’ll enjoy and add to these as you go along. For example, if you have a lot of finger paints and crayons in the house, you could get the kids to spend some time drawing and painting their favourite fairytale scenes or see if they can invent a story and draw it as they go.

If you want to get adventurous, you could then try some more messy things, such as making your own slime or creating your own playdough.

Cook Up a Storm

Baking can be a fun and rewarding activity with your kids. Cakes and other treats are a lot of fun and you can get them to join in by letting them mix the ingredients in the bowl and help with the decorations. If your children are a little older, you could try doing something fun like Great British Bake Off-style challenges

You can even get them to help make some of the meals over the weekend. Getting them to hep with making a soup or a stew can be enjoyable for the whole family.

Do you have any exciting activities in mind to keep everyone busy during these winter weekends? What are your top tips for making sure your little ones are entertained?
